On January 11th, 2025, over a hundred people gathered at the Bellevue Library to participate in a documentary screening co-hosted by the LMC Heritage & Me team and Centrigrowth, to celebrate the second Chinese American History Month in Washington State. From old to young, ranging from Seattle’s Chinatown to Tacoma to Sammamish, people engaged in a powerful discussion regarding Chinese American History and their shared history. Simultaneously, they would encourage the young people to learn more about their heritage and cultural identity.
We are honored to have invited Min Suan Zhou, an award-winning journalist and filmmaker from the Bay area in California. Min focuses on telling the Chinese American immigrants stories and bringing long-forgotten history to light.
In her powerful documentary One Mile Walk screened at this event, she retold the tragic story of a Chinese fishing village in Monterey Bay, California that was burned down by a fire in 1906, leading to the expulsion of many Chinese fisherman. This convention later led to a commemorative walk from Chinatown to the harbor in remembrance of the events of this story.
Min Zhou also has many other similar works documenting the lives of Chinese and Asian American immigrants from countless different regions and different time periods.
